All decks need some sort of maintenance. Mildew and algae grow on everything. On wood its a problem because it helps the deck hold moisture which causes rot. On composite and plastic decks it grows and becomes slippery and looks dirty. By cleaning wood decks you remove dirt, any algae and mildew. Seal it to prevent moisture from penetrating the deck. Stain it to make it unifrom in appearance and at the same time prevent moisture penetration. Composite and plastic decks also shoudl be cleaned once a year.
